I’m not a massive gamer but I do own a Nintendo DS which I won from a machine at a bowling alley (something like a million to one odds there) which my daughter soon took ownership of. My friend Ary from Digimartz.com_M3 DS SIMPLY_R4DS has just sent me this nifty little gadget the M3 DS Simply Complete 1GB Kit which basically lets you play copied backed-up “homebrew” games on your Nintendo DS.
The kit consists of an M3 DS Simply Card that you plug-in to your Nintendo in place of a regular cartridge, a 1 GB Kingston MicroSD card and a couple of adapters to read the SD card on your PC, either via USB or an SD memory adapter and card reader (not included). It also comes complete with the required software to make the M3 card do its stuff.
Once you’ve connected the card to your PC and installed the software you can drag games, videos and music over to the MicroSD card. This can then be plugged into the M3 DS which when connected to your Nintendo it provides you with a skin able interface to choose what you want to play, view or listen to out of what you dragged over. The 1 GB card is enough to hold about 35 DS games, most games I saw were around 30MB and the largest I saw was 128MB.
As a test I did a search to see how easy it was to find Nintendo DS games available for download, I’m not particularly familiar with bit torrents or file sharing but a search on my mates edition of Bear Share for NDS files brought up a load.
It’s certainly a cool little product, though whether it’s designed for purely “homebrew” uses I’ll leave to you to decide. The M3 DS Simply Complete 1GB Kit is available from M3 DS Simply Complete 1GB Kit for $59.50 [http://www.digimartz.com/r4ds-w-1gb-microsd-slot1-combo-by-r4-for-nintendo-ds-lite-p-79.html], about the price of a DS game, funny that.
